On Tuesday, 24th of September, all the TY students travelled to Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre in Monaghan, for an overnight trip, as part of their “Adventure Journey” for Gaisce.
They learned how to paddle, how to steer their canoes, how to get back out of the water if a canoe tipped over and how to rescue other people’s canoes. The students were also taught how to read maps and were able to identify some historical temples/ crannogs and ringforts nearby.
As part of their Gaisce award, all of the students sailed in their canoes for a distance of 15km on the Dromore River. The students also had great fun on the large water slide at the adventure centre.
A great and memorable time was had by all and it was a wonderful team-building experience.
