Stand Up Awareness Week November 13th -17th
Bush Post Primary is joining hundreds of schools nationwide in holding a Stand Up! Awareness Week to take a stand against homophobic bullying. We want to make our school a safe and welcoming place for all our students. A number of activities have been planned for the week including a talk from Outcomers Dundalk.
Trip to Valencia, Spain
During the mid-term break, Ms. Duffy & Ms. Martin accompanied 11 senior students to Valencia, Spain where they were immersed in Spanish language and culture through staying with Spanish host families!
Our students had been pen pals with the Spanish students prior to the trip and were warmly welcomed to their school, I.E.S Carles Salvador in Aldaia, Valencia. When we arrived on Saturday, 28th October, our Spanish pen pals brought us on a walking tour of Valencia city. After spending the first night in the hotel, on Sunday, we went to meet our Spanish families, who we would be staying with for the next few days. On Monday, we attended the school with our pen pals and took part in activities, including a game of Colpball (a Valencian sport), English class and Spanish class! Their Principal brought us to the local town hall where we were met by the mayor, were presented with some handheld artisan fans traditionally made in Aldaia and were shown a historic underground water reservoir. We also visited the museum where the fans are made and got to take part in a workshop to decorate parts of the fans!
We went home to have lunch with our Spanish families and in the evening we went shopping!
On Tuesday, we had breakfast at the school and then we headed to the Albufera natural park which is home to the largest lake in Spain and one of the most important wetland areas in the Iberian Peninsula. We got to take a boat trip around the lake and went for a dinner with our new Spanish friends in the evening.
On Wednesday, 1st November, we said farewell to our Spanish families! Our students enjoyed this wonderful opportunity to practice and improve their Spanish speaking skills whilst experiencing authentic Spanish culture first hand. They will maintain contact with their Spanish friends and families and Bush Post Primary looks forward to more opportunities to work with I.E.S. Carles Salvador in future.
