Successful Fundraiser for Dundalk Dog Rescue

Last Wednesday, 8th November, 2Oriel had a guest speaker, Edel from Dundalk Dog Rescue, come in to talk to them as part of their CSPE project.

The class worked really hard fundraising for the Dundalk Dog Rescues new build. The students from 2Oriel raised a whopping 417euro that enables Bush Post Primary to sponsor a kennel and have it named after the school.
The students and their teacher, Ms Wynne, were very proud that they exceeded the goal that they had set and would like to thank all who contributed to this wonderful cause.

    Trip to Valencia, Spain

During the mid-term break, Ms. Duffy & Ms. Martin accompanied 11 senior students to Valencia, Spain where they were immersed in Spanish language and culture through staying with Spanish host families!

Our students had been pen pals with the Spanish students prior to the trip and were warmly welcomed to their school, I.E.S Carles Salvador in Aldaia, Valencia. When we arrived on Saturday, 28th October, our Spanish pen pals brought us on a walking tour of Valencia city. After spending the first night in the hotel, on Sunday, we went to meet our Spanish families, who we would be staying with for the next few days. On Monday, we attended the school with our pen pals and took part in activities, including a game of Colpball (a Valencian sport), English class and Spanish class! Their Principal brought us to the local town hall where we were met by the mayor, were presented with some handheld artisan fans traditionally made in Aldaia and were shown a historic underground water reservoir. We also visited the museum where the fans are made and got to take part in a workshop to decorate parts of the fans!

We went home to have lunch with our Spanish families and in the evening we went shopping!
On Tuesday, we had breakfast at the school and then we headed to the Albufera natural park which is home to the largest lake in Spain and one of the most important wetland areas in the Iberian Peninsula. We got to take a boat trip around the lake and went for a dinner with our new Spanish friends in the evening.

On Wednesday, 1st November, we said farewell to our Spanish families! Our students enjoyed this wonderful opportunity to practice and improve their Spanish speaking skills whilst experiencing authentic Spanish culture first hand. They will maintain contact with their Spanish friends and families and Bush Post Primary looks forward to more opportunities to work with I.E.S. Carles Salvador in future.
